Deborah Gildea joined Novartis Social Business in May 2017. Novartis Social Business was created in 2016 and includes Novartis Access, the Novartis Malaria Initiative, the Novartis Healthy Family programs, SMS for Life and NGO supply. In her role, Deborah oversees the commercial operations and expansion of Novartis Social Business in the APAC region.

She started her career in sales and marketing roles in a number of consumer-facing businesses, before joining the Nutritional Healthcare division of GlaxoSmith Kline (GSK) in 2003. From there, she moved across to GSK Pharmaceuticals in 2010 as Commercial Director in a new Emerging Markets R&D unit where she used her expertise in consumer insights to help the team to adapt GSK’s portfolio to better meet the needs of patients in the developing world.

Deborah was one of a small team invited to develop GSK’s access to medicines strategy in 2010. She moved to Asia in 2011 to lead the implementation across Emerging Markets. She relocated to Phnom Penh in 2013 to set up GSK Cambodia as part of GSK’s Africa Developing Countries Unit. GSK now employs a local team of almost 100 people and is the largest pharmaceutical company in Cambodia. She moved to Singapore in 2016 to become General Manager, Developing Countries Asia (Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar and Papua New Guinea) before joining Novartis earlier this year.

Deborah graduated with a MA. in physics from Oxford University and with a Sloan Masters in Business (Distinction) from London Business School.
